Friends of Llanfrechfa Action Group

FLAG is a newly formed Action Group of concerned residents who oppose the proposed housing development on the Llanfrechfa Grange site.

FLAG members first highlighted a lack of proper consultation by Torfaen Planners in a meeting with David Davies, AM and MP for Monmouth, and Local Councillor Margaret Pead. Many local residents had not received letters of notification from Torfaen planners.

FLAG's first victory has been to force the Planners to re-open the consultation process.

Now members of the public will have a further 21 days to write to County Hall with their objections to the outline planning application. Please use this second chance to put your objections in writing to Mr Fretter, Director for the Environment, at County Hall.

The proposal is to shoe-horn 600 mixed housing units onto the Grange site - not just the 400 stated in the application - with two access roads feeding directly onto Caerleon Road. The implications for this small rural village are far-reaching and will have serious consequences for residents from miles around. Systematic over development of the countryside, the destruction of trees and wildlife, the loss of public facilities in the hospital and the creation of traffic congestion on Caerleon road and onto the roundabout (which the application itself states will be operating 'above capacity' if the development goes ahead) are just some causes for concern. There are many others.

The development must be stopped.

FLAG has organised a Public Meeting, chaired by David Davies AM/MP, to be held at:

Woodland Road Community Centre, Croesyceiliog, on Friday 1st July at 7pm.

Please come to the meeting! Everyone is welcome. This will be an ideal opportunity to discuss the full implications of the proposed development, to raise any concerns you may have, and tohear from Torfaen Planners who have been asked to make a presentation and to answer your questions. It will affect us all.

Please support FLAG. More members are needed.
